Bad Brains is a hardcore / reggae band from New York.
History
Bad Brains in 1977 in Washington, D. C. as a jazz funk band "Mind Power" and was founded at the beginning of four African-American musicians to discover for themselves the punk rock. In 1979 the band went to gig prohibited in almost all of Washington, DC New York City and recorded their first single in December Pay To Cum.
Bad Brains were style-setting role models for others Minor Threat, Henry Rollins' SOA or New York's Beastie Boys (which is now released on DVD Christmas show in 1982 at CBGB's opened) and, along with Black Flag, for the majority of the U.S. occurring in that time frame punk / hardcore scene.
Inspired by a Bob Marley concert the whole band converted to the Rastafarian faith, which sometimes led to problems with the punk / hardcore scene.
1983 the band toured for the first time accompanied by West Germany, from the punk band Toxoplasma from Neuwied.
A special feature in the musical style of the band are alternating between very fast hardcore songs and reggae tracks.
Resolution 1983 and the reunion followed in 1986 with a series of publications, in both the reggae and punk in the field, especially in 1986 on SST Records, published classic I Against I, was the groundbreaking including for the crossover. Later, the band have different names such as Zion Train, HR, 101 or Soul

Brains was the name of the
Bad Brains in the years 1999-2001. Darryl Jenifer gave as the reason a spiritual change of singer HR, who felt the word "bad" in the band name for a time as inappropriate.
