Sarah McLachlan Biography

Sarah Ann McLachlan, OC, OBC, sɛɹə Aen məklɑ klən ː (born January 28, 1968 in Halifax, Nova Scotia) is a Canadian singer-songwriter.

McLachlan was adopted in childhood. At the age of 17 she played with the New Wave band October Game. In 1988 she signed a record deal with independent label Nettwerk. Then she moved to Vancouver, where she recorded her first album, Touch. Her next album Solace won her the 1991 commercial breakthrough in their Canadian homeland, since 1997 (Surfacing) and her top ten listings in the U.S. charts are safe.

Throughout her career, Sarah McLachlan has sold over 25 million albums and won three Grammys. She is the initiator of Lilith Fair, a traveling music festival that was in the years 1997 to 1999 in Canada and the USA over 100 concerts, where only female artist (besides McLachlan including Meredith Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris, Dar Williams or Suzanne Vega) on the stage. Part of the proceeds (totaling over $ 500,000) was donated to women\'s projects on site. Their largest presence with more than a billion viewers around the world they had during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games on 12 February, 2010 BC Place Stadium in Vancouver. She sang her song \"Ordinary Miracle\".

McLachlan from 1997 to 2008 long years with her partner, drummer Ashwin Sood, married, with whom she has (born in 2002 and 2007) two daughters.
